Since being introduced to the West yoga has become a popular form of physical exercise. It was influenced by the Indian practice of hatha yoga. In the east and in India it has a meditative and spiritual core in addition to the physical aspects. For our purposes we are going to to focus on yoga as an exercise program and physical therapy routine. Some of the benefits associated with yoga poses include alleviating health problems such as back pain, reduced stress, and increased flexibility.
Yoga involves holding stretches, or poses, as a kind of low-impact form of exercise and is often used for a therapeutic purpose. It is often performed in classes and may also involve breath work, meditation, and music. While it is relatively safe, beginners should not do advanced moves before they are ready.
